What Is TDS?

Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) refers to the combined content of all inorganic and organic substances dissolved in water. This includes minerals, salts, metals, and other ions.

TDS Levels: What Do They Mean?

  • 0-50 ppm: Ultra-pure (distilled), lacks minerals
  • 50-150 ppm: Excellent for drinking
  • 150-250 ppm: Good quality water
  • 250-500 ppm: Acceptable range
  • 500-1000 ppm: Poor, consider purification
  • Above 1000 ppm: Unsafe, requires treatment

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recommends a maximum TDS of 500 ppm for drinking water, with a desirable limit of 300 ppm.
